WENDEBEE II

About the Show | Edifice & Us

We are looking forward to sharing the story of the Wendebee II with you.  We are sure you will find it a fascinating floating edifice. This vintage, 55 foot luxury yacht was first launched in 1952.  Its first home was in the waters around Florida.  In 1967, it made a trip of nearly 7000 kms to its new home on the Red River in Winnipeg.  In the summer of 2001, the Wendebee II was launched into the waters of Lake Diefenbaker.

Wendebee Season 2

The Wendebee II is an adventure for the eyes with her finely crafted interior and exterior.  The episode will show the details of her fine finishings.  We were lucky enough to go for a cruise on the lake. It was nothing short of luxurious.  Perhaps best of all you will meet the lovely people who operate her, two couples Brent and Joyce, Rick and Laurie.

But the story we are going to tell is not just about the Wendebee II.  She is part of a history of passenger boats on Saskatchewan’s lakes and rivers.  For example, the paddle boat that operated for many years on Lake Waskesieu.  There were also several luxury cruisers on Last Mountain Lake from the turn of the century through the 1930’s.

The Wendebee II is part of a long tradition in Saskatchewan and is no doubt one of classiest ships to ever sail our waters.

If you have some memories or stories of passenger boats in Saskatchewan we’d like to hear from you.
